Jon Cotton 1989 - 2007
Playing Participant in the Legends of Peterborough event March 16th 2008
Jon made his Pirates debut as a fifteen year old in the 1989/90 season, making two British Championship Finals appearances at Wembley under Rocky Saganiuk before moving on as a well respected and highly talented youngster to Bracknell Bees and then Blackburn Hawks by which time he was racking up more than a point a game, playing top line hockey.
Jon rolled up his sleeves and returned to lead the line for Pirates in a 1996/97 season where the existence of ice hockey in the city hung by a perilous thread as the team took repeated heavy beatings. None the less, Jon still registered 42+31 from his season and was one of the few shining lights in that dark campaign.
The remainder of the nineties saw Jon plying his trade at Invicta and then Chelmsford where he became a hugely popular player and a prolific points scorer. Jon returned home for the last two Pirates seasons and pulled on a Phantoms shirt to play a key role in their first two trophy winning seasons. A return to Chelmsford for two seasons preceded a hugely popular return to Phantoms for the current 2007/08 season where his hard skating style belies his eighteen seasons at senior level.
A true ambassador of the game, hugely respected by players and fans wherever he has played but always proclaimed proudly by Peterborough fans as “one of ours” !
