James arrived on the scene just in time to make a handful of appearances for Pirates in their final season before playing backup netminder during Phantoms trophy winning first season in 2002/03. For the following three seasons, James continued as backup netminder, grabbing limited ice-time and eventually moved on to Solihull for the 2006/07 season before returning to share netminding duties with the Islanders for a winning 2007/08 season. A very loyal servant of Peterborough hockey, James was very unfortunate not to have made the breakthrough here. He always performed well when given opportunities and would undoubtedly have secured a starting slot had he chosen to take his talents elsewhere
