John Tague 1984 - 1986, 1989 - 1994
Playing Participant in the Legends of Peterborough event March 16th 2008
John Tague’s first spell with Pirates saw him sharing netminding duties with Ian Cade from 1984 – 1986 with his second season being as part of the Pirates championship winning side.
Brief stints with Lee Valley and Oxford preceeded his second spell with Pirates which started in the 1989/90 season where he shared netminding duties with Chris Newton. The arrival of coach Rocky Saganiuk saw John backup Scott O’Connor as Pirates made two appearances at the Wembley British Championship Finals before he bowed out after the 1993/94 season.
So often playing understudy as backup netminder, John’s appearances were always welcomed by the Pirates fans, not least because his athletic style always guaranteed drama as he threw himself around in a manner that defied the textbook but always delighted the fans.
Expect the unexpected on March 16th !
