John Walker 1983-1988, 1993-1994
Playing Participant in the Legends of Peterborough event March 16th 2008
John “Turkey” Walker joined Pirates from Altrincham Aces at the start of the 1983/84 season. Altrincham had a strong reputation for producing British talent and John’s addition to the largely inexperienced Pirates D was hugely welcomed.
His stay at Pirates lasted five seasons and more than 150 games during which he played a key part in securing two league championship winning medals. A move to Lee Valley in 1988/89 ended tragically when John suffered an horrendous broken leg that threatened to end his career.
Despite the injury, John made a brief return for Chelmsford in the 1991/92 season and even laced them up for one more game in Peterborough during the traumas of the 1993/94 season.
A no-nonsense and totally fearless D-man who was never afraid to step in when the fists were flying, John “Turkey” Walker will be a very popular returnee on 16th March.
