Glaswegian Kenny MacDonald started off his hockey career in Aviemore before moving down to star with Nottingham Panthers in the early 1980s. His two seasons in Nottingham saw Kenny averaging more than a goal per game and he had long been a target of the ambitious Pirates who already had Kenny’s brother Sandy within their ranks.

In 1984, Pirates got their man and Kenny started his seven season career in Peterborough with a home debut on 18th November 1984 in a 13-5 win against the Blackpool Seagulls. Seven years later, Kenny’s final game for Pirates was on the biggest stage possible at Wembley Arena where he scored the go-ahead goal in the British Championship Final against Durham Wasps, live on BBC Grandstand.

An uncomplicated but classy power-forward, Kenny MacDonald has now returned full-circle to his highland roots but his return to Peterborough on 16th March will be welcomed by many
