Troy Walkington put together arguably Peterborough hockey’s most impressive roster at the start of the 1998/99 season and in the pack was relative unknown 21 year old Nathan Rempel, a player who made an immediate impact.

At a mere 5’ 11”, Nathan was built like the proverbial brick outhouse and believed not only in hitting players but skating right through them and out the other side. His high energy, high impact, big attitude game made him an instant cult hero with local fans. Unfortunately his game won him few fans outside of Peterborough as, apart from dismantling the reputation of many of the league’s hard men, he found himself hitting the headlines for both assaulting a linesman and for ending the season of Guildford’s netminder Jamie Organ. Both offences owed more to his honest endeavours than any ill-intent but both only further enhanced his legend with Peterborough fans.

Despite his one season at the club, Nathan’s legend seemed to grow season on season, aided by his being drafted by Team Canada the following season and then from starring in the UK’s Elite league ever since.

His return to Peterborough as a Phantom this season whipped up a euphoria that even eclipsed the signing of NHL star Garry Unger in the eighties and his current form suggests that he has many more chapters to add to his Peterborough portfolio.
